Rawikarn Dechdi, submitted the project to the Bayer Young Environmental Project last year. About the project Rawikarn said: “The secondhand paper project was started when I joined an art camp in Chiang Mai and taught the kids to make use of used paper. When we recently celebrated Christmas at the Jaruvej Kindergarten in Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi, we taught the kids there how to make wrapping paper from used sheets of paper. With their own drawings and paintings the children added value and didn’t have to spend money on wrapping paper. We also gave them handmade books made of paper that has been used on only one side. Although the kids are very young and do not know about recycling yet, we got a great response from them. We are proud that we have stimulated the awareness of the importance of reusing paper. We have seen the power of creativity and a lot of smiles. The project is not only a great money saver but also an enjoyable way to introduce children to recycling and environmental protection.”
