Sustainable Development Promotion Program

The Bayer company, committed to its mission “Bayer: Science For A Better Life”, for many years has been successfully implementing responsible-business programs and assisting local communities in Poland. It is a multi-level program addressed to various professional and age groups. Its objective is to increase the people’s awareness in the area of environment protection.

Sustainable development means deploying innovative technological solutions based on scientific research, with simultaneous concern for the quality of the environment. It is an example of social responsibility of Bayer, in line with the company’s mission: “Science For a Better Life”.

What is BYEE

The Bayer Young Environmental Envoy competition is a scholarship program for Polish students, organized since 1999 in cooperation with the Warsaw University of Technology. The purpose of the program is to enable Polish students interested in environment protection to learn about the standards of sustainable development and monitoring systems in the industry. The idea behind it is to promote environment-friendly attitudes by awarding prizes for outstanding pro-ecology initiatives. The competition is addressed to students interested in environment protection and its objective is to present practical, specific ways of solving environmental problems. The authors of the awarded projects (Bachelor’s and Engineer’s degree thesis related to environment protection) will be invited to participate in an international debate on sustainable development, to take place in Germany.

The competition is held under the auspices of the UN Environment Protection Program (UNEP), The President of Warsaw, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Awards

Grand Prix - 5 000 PLN
Second Prize – 3 000 PLN
Third Prize – 3 000 PLN
All winners are invited to participate in the international workshops in Leverkusen (Germany). The workshops provide opportunity to gain some practical knowledge about the newest achievements in the field of the sustained development. It is worth mentioning that the laureates and contest and Leverkusen workshops participants are able to easily find jobs as the environment protection specialists.

Schedule

Applications for "Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Program” must be submitted between April 22^nd and September 24^th 2008. Jury debate will take place in October 10^th 2008. The authors of the best Bachelor’s and Engineer’s degree thesis related to environment protection will be announced during a special event „Eko-Forum” that will be held on October 23^rd 2008 in the University of Warsaw Library. The forum is a traditional platform for exchanging ideas and creative debates for high-profile experts, scientists and students. The discussed topics concern the most important environmental issues. The trip to Germany will take place in November 2^nd 2008.
