Bayer Young Environmental Envoy, South Africa (BYEE)
Tell us how you care for the environment and stand a chance to win R10, 000 cash and a trip to Germany
THE BYEE programme is a ground-breaking global environment education initiative for the youth, organised by Bayer and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).

The aim of the programme is to develop young environmental leaders and boost the level of environmental awareness among the youth. As part of the prize, two South African youths will join like-minded young people from around the world on a weeklong educational field trip in Germany. The Envoys also receive R10, 000 each in funding towards their winning projects!
Entry guidelines
  • Youth between the ages of 18-24.
  • Actively involved in community environmental activities or projects.
  • South African citizen
Application process and requirements
  • Applicants need to provide detailed information on their project, including a description of the activities as follows
    • Executive summary (max. 2 pages, 12 point, double-spaced)
    • Describe how your project has or is addressing any of the environmental challenges listed below:
      • Sustainable agriculture.
      • Water conservation.
      • Litter and waste management.
      • Energy efficiency. 
      • Climate change.
    • Provide brief details on actual situation (theoretical background; analysis of the current situation/environmental problem, etc).
    • Target groups i.e. beneficiaries of your project.
    • Objective (why the project exists).
    • Strategy (how have you achieved the objective above).
    • Implementation/actions (activities done).
    • Risks/challenges.
    • Project team.
    • Budget/financing (how project has been sustained financially thus far).
    • Success measurement/evaluation/results (what has been achieved).
  • Essays must be in English, and email entries are welcome.
  • Good knowledge of English is mandatory.
  • Complete supplied application form and forward all requested documentation.
  • Submit supporting visual material (pictures or video) to highlight the project, when required to do so.
  • Be willing and able to travel to Germany in November 7-12, 2010, as part of the prize.
  • Also be willing to participate in environmental projects approved by Bayer, for at least 2 years following this competition.
  • Submit the following documents together with the application form:
    • Copy of your identity document and or student card.
    • If student, copy of 2009 academic transcript or most recent semester.

Rules
  • Employees of Bayer and its subsidiaries, their agencies, families and contractors engaged in the project, are not eligible to enter.
  • Student applicants must secure the endorsement of a faculty member, principal, dean, or department head.
  • All applications must reach Bayer (Pty) Limited by 17h00 on Tuesday 31 August, 2010. No late entries will be considered.
  • Incomplete application forms and entry requirements will automatically be disqualified. 
  • The monetary prize will only be transferred into the bank account of a registered non-profit organisation, and/or held by Bayer on behalf of the winner(s). 
  • Distribution, and the manner thereof, of the funding is at the sole discretion of Bayer Pty Limited.
  • The judges' decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
